Approach

Our Aims...

Heartbreak aims to tell stories that inspire, entertain, challenge and help us come to a better understanding of human beings and how we can live together.  We focus on the uniqueness of theatre and particularly the ever-changing relationship between the audience and the actor. We want our work to be the best in our field; collaborating with actors, designers, composers and crew to create a special and exciting experience for our audiences. Moreover our mission is to give and to have fun whilst doing it!  If you've cried and laughed while watching a show, then we've done our job.

... as a company

We work as a team both internally and externally using principles of listening and communicating directly and honestly. We  encourage equality and to put the team before self. Therefore we hope to create an environment where we can learn, develop and thrive. Our business is managed by following the core values:  simplicity, learning  and sharing best practice. We work very hard at developing the company and trying not to spend more than we have coming in. ( We haven't followed the role model given us from the current Government..!)

 ... in our theatrical work

The company's policy is to present the text of the plays clearly and give the production values innovation and a zing factor that sets us apart. This means that our performances are noted for their imaginative and original production style whilst also being fused with a clarity and accessibility which is crucial for new audiences.

We have toured nationally indoors and outdoors creating magic in a variety of spaces but always aiming to provide excellent value for our customers whether they be venues, audience members or sponsors.

... in our education and training work

We transfer our principles from working together as professionals into schools. Our specialism is creating a "forum" or interactive workshop environment for primary and secondary pupils. This allows the students to take control of the drama and direct the actors to develop the piece. We find that this approach deepens their understanding of the play and gives them a sense of empowerment. It encourages imagination, improves their communication skills and heightens their awareness of working as an ensemble. They also have fun and find it liberating to be in charge!  We love watching students learn. It as if a lightbulb suddenly goes on in their minds!
