Who We Are
Maddy Kerr
Executive Director
Maddy is very proud to be Executive Director of a company with 19 years heritage, supported by committed team at Heartbreak HQ in the Cultural Quarter, Leamington Spa and to have been a driving force behind diversifying the artistic output of the company in recent years.
Maddy graduated from London University in 1987 and then went onto drama school . In 1991 in association with Peter Mimmack, she raised the curtain on Heartbreak Productions and in so doing realised a long held ambition to create theatre in the open air; a passion heavily influenced by childhood trips to The Minack Theatre in West Cornwall.
Those early days of being responsible for only themselves and six actors seem light years away when looking at the current Heartbreak world. Leading the company forward and developing the film, educational and training elements of the work is her major focus over the next two years. With the development of Spencer Yard fast approaching she would also like to bed the company deeper within the local community and has a number of interesting projects to keep her out of mischief. Although she is occasionally allowed out of the office to don her “roleplay hat” and interact with the real world!
Peter Mimmack
Artistic Director
Peter developed an interest in acting at Newcastle University while studying surveying. He trained at the Arts Educational School London on a postgraduate course and has since gained extensive experience in theatre through forming Heartbreak Productions. The early years were spent either developing the company or on tour but in the last decade Peter has focused on directing.
Directing credits include most of the popular Shakespeare plays and a host of newly adapted classics. Peter most recently directed As You Like It and his own adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. He remains fascinated by stories and how to create passionate, inventive and fun productions. Peter’s delight in making a connection with the audience and experimenting with layered storytelling has led to Heartbreak’s unique style.
The challenges he has set for the new decade include using theatre in its most interactive way to explore family and community issues, to develop an educational style that fully involves all participants, and increase film and video output including a mockumentary of one of the tours.
