Maddy graduated from London University in 1987 and then went onto drama school . In 1991 in association with Peter Mimmack, she raised the curtain on Heartbreak Productions and in so doing realised a long held ambition to create theatre in the open air; a passion heavily influenced by childhood trips to The Minack Theatre in West Cornwall.
Peter developed an interest in acting at Newcastle University while studying surveying. He then trained at the Arts Educational School London and has gained extensive experience in theatre through forming Heartbreak Productions in 1991. The early years were spent on tour but in the last decade Peter has focused on directing.
Directing credits include a vareity of Shakespeare plays and a host of newly adapted classics. He remains fascinated by stories and how to create passionate, inventive and fun productions. Peter’s delight in making a connection with the audience and experimenting with layered storytelling has led to Heartbreak’s unique style.
Peter is also developing a film branch of Heartbreak called ‘Playview Productions’.
Sarah joined Heartbreak Productions in 2023 and is responsible for liaising with venues to produce contracts, touring logistics, and managing the Heartbreak Office and bookings in North Hall.
Avril James – Accounts Administrator Contact Avril
Avril has been part of the team at Heartbreak since 2017. Her role is to ensure the accounts of the business are kept up to date and to send invoices to our venues. Avril loves working at Heartbreak and seeing the shows evolve from the beginning to the end of our season – we really do go on a journey that starts in April and ends in September.

Lisa is a Theatre Studies graduate of The University of Lancaster and also holds a Masters degree in Musical Theatre. She worked as an actor for a number of years before turning her hand to Directing, Producing and Marketing. Lisa and her office-dog, Dougal, are thrilled to be a part of the Heartbreak team.
